The Centre of Excellence in Urban Planning and Design (CoEUPD) at National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) has been officially designated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 19, 2024. This prestigious recognition positions NITC as a national leader in urban planning and design, committed to shaping the future of urban development across India—especially in the southern region. With the support of a ₹250 crore endowment from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Centre is envisioned as a long-term initiative to drive innovation, capacity building, and research in urban planning over the next 25 years. The CoEUPD aims to become a pivotal hub for advancing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban environments through multidisciplinary collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
